Extreme Righteousness Seeing ourselves in the Pharisees | |

Zealous for Scripture, Scrupulous in their giving, Dedicated to living untainted by evil, Conscientious in obedience to Gods commands. These phrases describe Pharisees. And they describe our own evangelicals. Yet most of us have failed to appreciate the rich parallels to ourselves. We have focused on the Pharisees as negative characters. By so doing, we forfeit the practical benefit God intended by revealing so much about them. In this honest, eye-opening book Tom Hovestol examines the Pharisees. Exploring their historical and biblical roots, he discovers penetrating truths that can warn, enlighten and protect believers to avoid their disastrous path. |

Steve Ayers, Burnham-on-Sea on 02.06.2010 at 11:45:48This is a fabulous book that looks at the problems with the Pharisees of old and asks us what we evangelicals (as the modern day equivalents) need to learn to avoid making the same mistakes. Full of insights and challenges it repeatedly points us to grace and away from legalism. I have to buy further copies of this as mine is so full of underlinings that it would be impossible to lend it to anyone. genuinely one of the best Christian books I have ever read. |
