We all know it’s important to study God’s Word. But sometimes it’s hard to know where to start. What’s more, a lack of time, emotionally driven approaches, and past frustrations can erode our resolve to keep growing in our knowledge of Scripture. How can we, as Christian women, keep our focus and sustain our passion when reading the Bible?
Offering a clear and concise plan to help women go deeper in their study of Scripture, this book will equip you to engage God’s Word in a way that trains your mind and transforms your heart.
I have just finished this book, having been unable to put it down from the moment I read the opening chapter! I appreciate that as someone who spends much of their time teaching others and hoping to enthuse them for their own study of the bible, this is exactly my sort of book but I highly recommend it to every woman who wants to know and love her God more and more through dwelling in His word. Jen Wilkin has written a clear, appealing and enthusiasm–fuelling book which explains why women need to be reading and studying the bible as much as anyone else. Having persuaded the reader to get stuck into the bible, she spends much of the book outlining a really helpful means of approaching the bible for our own personal study. This isn’t just for bible geeks…this is for everyone who longs to know, understand and be more like our awesome God. Rather than being an academic explanation, Jen manages to keep it warm, applicable and speaking to the heart. This book is a valuable resource in equipping and enthusing women of all ages and stages to read their bibles and love their God more. I will be recommending it to many, and praying for it to play it’s part in prompting more and more women to take God’s word seriously, love it for themselves and so be firmly rooted in the gospel as revealed in the bible. A brilliant book!
An excellent, easy to read and apply encouragement for anyone (not just women!) seeking to know God through His word in a deeper way.
This is a superb book.
If you’re looking for a book to help you to learn bible study skills then this book is indeed a useful starting point. Jen Wilkin highlights from the beginning the importance of recognising that when we read the bible, we come to read about a God who has revealed Himself in the pages of His Word rather than to read about ourselves. She argues the case for biblical literacy amongst women; concisely talks us through five alliterated guidelines on how to read the Bible i.e. with Purpose, Perspective, Patience, Process and Prayer and finishes with some worked examples and suggestions for those involved in teaching the bible in various contexts.
