It would have been common for Jesus to actually sing the Psalms; the Psalms were part of the Bible He read. In The Songs of Jesus, Tim Keller takes readers on a year-long journey through the Psalms. During the first six months, you'll find a brief devotional on each of the Psalms, with a basic overview and life application. During the last six months, Keller show readers how to turn each Psalm into a prayer. The book features excerpts from Keller's bestselling books, recommended readings for deeper study, and fresh biblical insights. A thoughtful gift for friends and loved ones!
The introduction to this book is very helpful in assisting you to get the most out of your journey through psalms. I like his adoption of: 'Admire, Admit and Aspire' as a tool for meditating first on the passage for oneself. I have appreciated having Psalms split up for me into chunks that bring me through the book in a year. As expected, Keller's reflections and prayers are enriching and Christ-centred. I only wish that they had been slightly meatier. That said, his introduction is most helpful in encouraging readers to pursue their own study and perhaps the shorter reflections and prayers is a further nudge for people to do this hard work themselves. A good companion book to daily devotionals.
