A Chance to Die is a vibrant portrayal of Amy Carmichael, an Irish missionary and writer who spent fifty–three years in south India without furlough. There she became known as “Amma,” or “mother,” as she founded the Dohnavur Fellowship, a refuge for underprivileged children.
Amy’s life of obedience and courage stands as a model for all who claim the name of Christ. She was a woman with desires and dreams, faults and fears, who gave her life unconditionally to serve her Master.
Bringing Amma to life through compelling biographical narrative, Elisabeth Elliot urges readers to examine the depths of their own commitment to Christ.
'Amy Carmichael was one of Northern Ireland's true treasures. She has been one of our heroes since our parents told us her story as children. Her life, her songs and legacy of faith brought the truth and beauty of Jesus to countless children. We are honored to recommend Elizabeth Elliot's book to you.' ~ Keith and Kristyn Getty
Forty five years on the mission field and she never took a vacation. The work she started with orphans still goes on. She wrote many books and I want to read them all. She is remembered by many and was buried on the mission field : also rescued many young children from life in the temples. All young christians should read this book.
A very inspiring missionary story!! LOVED it and would recommend it to any Christian! This true account of Amy Carmichael’s life is amazing and I think Elizabeth Elliot does an excellent job of bringing it to life.
It would be impossible, I expect, to ever write fiction that could top the real life adventures, challenges, and victories of Amy Carmichael’s life. Elisabeth Elliot has caught the tenor and excitement, the laughter and tears, the grandeur and quiet charm in retelling the truth of Amma’s passion for souls, the truth of the Gospel, and her dauntless courage in the face of incredible obstacles. What a challenge to my own life!
A single woman, sold out for Christ... What an amazing story. Inspirational and thought-provoking. Amy was a committed woman of God, loving her Saviour, who did great exploits for Him. Found it a real challenge on a personal level!
